What is the purpose of a nose mask on a vehicle?

I'm looking at options on some vehicles, and was wondering what the benefits/ purpose of a nose mask a car is?What is the purpose of a nose mask on a vehicle?
To make money for the people who manufacture and sell them. The nose mask or BRA as some call them cause as much paint damage as they prevent. The instructions with them even state to NOT use them during rain or when they're wet as they will abrade the paint. What is the purpose of a nose mask on a vehicle?
It is to protect the paint from chipping from small rocks %26amp; debris.

However, in places where it is usually sunny, ie So Cal, I have seen cars that once that nose cover comes off after being on for a long time, the paint has faded somewhat by the sun, and the nose is still the same color.

Another thing to watch out for is the mask rubbing against the paint and wearing it off. Its a good idea to take it off from time to time to make sure its not doing that.
It prevents rock chips in the paint.
to protect the frontend paint and chrome from rocks and road debris
