Wow, what a powerful movie. Very touching and moving. This movie was just so emotion. Hell Cher did such a good job that you forgot it was Cher and you see her as Dusty, A drug addicted mother and lost soul. Eric Stoelz (spelling?) did an amazing job as Rocky Dennis a boy with a rare skull condition. So i was just wondering how much of the movie is true. Did the real Rocky Dennis really go to a camp and fall in love with a blind girl or is that just added in to make the film to build more of a story?.So I just saw the movie called Mask and was just wondering how much is true?
The romance with the blind girl was fabricated, but I imagine Rocky did have a crush at some time, which would be average for anyone. There really is a camp for blind children, per discussion at IMDB's forum for ';Mask';. You might enjoy doing some reading there, so I'll place a link:

Courtesy of IMDB, here is some information:
Songs by Bob Seger were substituted in place of those by Bruce Springsteen shortly before the film's release after a failure to reach agreement with Springsteen. According to director Peter Bogdanovich ..., he has secured the rights for the Springsteen songs, and the print will be re-released with the music chosen the first time around.
The poem that Rocky reads to Rusty was written by the real Rocky Dennis:
';These things are good: ice cream and cake, a ride on a Harley, seeing monkeys in the trees, the rain on my tongue, and the sun shining on my face.
These things are a drag: dust in my hair, holes in my shoes, no money in my pocket, and the sun shining on my face.';
In real life, Rusty actually had two sons. The older boy died from complications from AIDS, which he got from a blood transfusion.
Florence ';Rusty'; Tullis, the mother of Rocky Dennis, passed away November 11, 2006, at age 70 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on October 14. Ms. Tullis was portrayed by Cher in ';Mask';.
Wikipedia has a site for Roy L. ';Rocky'; Dennis that includes a picture of him. You can see that Eric Stoltz's makeup is quite close to the real thing.

Everything I've ever read about the movie makes it sound like it's a faithful telling of his life's story, but I've never found any details about the blind girl, so that part could be made-up.
