Why does Rip Hamilton wear his nose mask if his nose isn't broken?

He wears it because his nose has been broken so many times that the cartilage in his nose is really weak and if he gets hit at all in his nose it will just collapse and break again. Why does Rip Hamilton wear his nose mask if his nose isn't broken?
While there may be some truth to the superstition theory, he actually has to wear the mask to protect his nose from being broken again. Its in his bio at his official site. It says another hit to his nose could force him to retire. Why does Rip Hamilton wear his nose mask if his nose isn't broken?
Superstition kind of

When the Pistons won the title in '04 his nose was broken and he had to wear the mask, so he decided to wear it permanently for good luck

it's not bringing us much luck this year though :-(
Broken nose can easily get reinjured. He doesn't want another broken nose. Once you break your nose its easy to get it broken again, thats why he wears it.
I think after wearing it so long, he's just more comfortable, and doesn't feel like adjusting to the transition from wearing to not wearing it.
He wears it for good luck because the Pistons won the title the year he broke his nose. So he has been wearing it ever since.
David Blaine knows why.
